Michael Szczechowski, MS

I joined the Center for Grief and Trauma Therapy to train and complete my final step towards earning my doctoral degree, and in doing so joined a family of clinicians that love the work they do and truly care for their clients as well as each other. I am a sixth-year doctoral psychology student at West Chester University. Throughout my training, I have worked with clients of many different backgrounds across private practice, college counseling, community mental health, and residential recovery settings. I have worked with adolescents and adults of all ages seeking help for depression, anxiety, various traumatic experiences and symptoms, substance use and addiction more broadly, as well as grief, relationship difficulties, and life-transitions.

In my experience as a therapist and as a client in my own right, I think therapy works best when a client feels free to talk about anything, no matter how seemingly scary, heavy, “inappropriate,” etc. This, with the sense that they will not be judged, and instead that their experience is worthy of being understood and taken seriously. I aim to provide this for the people I work with, as well as to express to them my positive regard and confidence in their ability to improve.
